Controlled Pressure Equalisation for VARIBOX IBCs

The VARIBOX Overpressure Vent is designed to equalise pressure inside VARIBOX IBCs. Integrated into the screwcap, the vent uses a specialised membrane that allows gas to pass while preventing liquid from passing through under normal operating conditions.

Pressure differences can occur during the storage, transport and use of chemicals. Changes in temperature, differences in altitude during transport or the properties of the chemical itself can cause pressure to increase or decrease inside the container.

How Does the VARIBOX Overpressure Vent Work?

The pressure relief vent uses a membrane that allows gas to move through it in both directions.

When pressure builds up inside the VARIBOX, vapour can gradually escape through the membrane until the pressure is equalised. When underpressure occurs, for example when vapour inside the container cools down, air can gradually enter through the membrane.

At the same time, the membrane prevents liquid from passing through under normal operating conditions.

This continuous pressure equalisation helps prevent excessive pressure differences from developing inside the VARIBOX.

Prevent Pressure Build-Up

Pressure inside an IBC can change for several reasons. For example, when a container is exposed to higher temperatures, the air and vapour above the liquid can expand and increase the internal pressure.

Changes in altitude during transport can also create pressure differences between the inside and outside of the container. In addition, certain chemicals can generate pressure themselves.

The VARIBOX Overpressure Vent helps manage these changes by allowing pressure to equalise gradually rather than accumulating inside the container.

This helps prevent deformation or bulging caused by pressure build-up and contributes to safer chemical storage and transport.

The VARIBOX Overpressure Vent is designed for use with multiple VARIBOX containment solutions, including the VARIBOX FC 800, VARIBOX FC 1000 and VARIBOX CC 250.

Built for Chemical Applications

The pressure relief vent is designed specifically for use in industrial chemical packaging. Its membrane is made from PTFE, a material with excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals.

This is particularly important because the vent can come into contact with vapours from the chemical stored inside the VARIBOX.

Chemical compatibility and the suitability of a vented IBC must always be assessed for the specific chemical and application.
